Nothing can keep the Krewe of Cork down!
Neither rain, nor gloom, nor impending sunset could keep the Krewe of Cork from pursuing its mission of Wine, Food and Fun!
What a great week Corkians had.
It started with a sumptuous wine dinner featuring the fabulous wine of Grand Marshal Jean-Noel Fourmeaux du Sartel and the pairings of Rib Room Chef, Rene’ Bajeux on Wednesday night.
Then on Thursday evening we stopped at The Foundry for a fun evening with terrific camaraderie, tasty food and live music.
Friday got off to a terrific start with the Bloody Mary block party on Royal Street in front of the Court of the Two Sisters where Corkians greeted friends, compared costumes, and warmed up with libations.
The lunch at the Court of Two Sisters was expertly handled by the staff and management. All appreciated the fine repast, especially the desert, accompanied by ample champagne and wine.
The rains came, either too early or too late, and put a brief damper on the Krewe, forcing a postponed start to the parade. But the stalwart Krewe forged ahead, about 45 minutes delayed, to have an outstanding parade with much encouragement from the enthusiastic crowd along the route.
Queen Allyson, Grand Marshal Jean Noel, King Patrick and Captain Bill led the Krewe on its journey in the Quarter. Former royalty filled the ranks with former Grand Marshal Steve Reeder and former Queens: Margarita Bergen, Debbie Gagne, Mary Anne McDougal, Kate Bishop, Melanie Talia, Yvette DeBlanc and Gillian Pierce, who is also the Royal Coordinator. Terrific music from Freddie Lonzo and the Cork Poppas from da Region! All together equaled an incredible day.
The King and Queen Party at the Royal Sonesta was the pièce de résistance, with jubilant Corkians celebrating more wine, food and fun as Sha’on and Success kept everyone moving with great music.
